The heart-warming film “A Simple Life” has had released a new batch of still photos prior to its release on the mainland screens.

CF: Mainland Box Office in the 7th Week

Huayi Brothers’”Love” led a raft of romance flicks by pulling in $13.91 million and caught the second spot in weekly B.O. chart. Directed by Doze Niu, “Love” caught the eye at first because of its all-star cast, including young actors, such as Ethan Ruan, Mark Zhao and Eddie Peng, and veterans, such as Shu Qi and Zhao Wei. Set in Beijing and Taipei, “Love” told the story of three couples whose lives are intertwined, but in the end all characters found their own answers to what love is: namely courage and forgiveness.

Mainland director Sun Zhou presented “I Do”, a comedy that concentrated on the lives of 30’s -40’s single ladies. It is the first commercial movie for the artistic type director. Thanks to Valentines’ Day, the first commercial entry of Sun Zhou got a strong record of $6.31 million over its second week run.

The cast of heavily-under-wraps Tony Ching Siu-Tong’s Madame White Snake (current English title, It’s Love) was revealed to the public at the production wrap press conference on the 16th. The cast presented to the press: Jet Li, Charlene Choi, Vivian Hsu, Huang Shengyi, Raymond Lam and Wen Zhang. The lineup also includes Lam Suet, Chapman To, Sonija Kwok, Law Kar-Ying, and Miriam Yeung. The film is now in post-production with a year-end release planned.

Glamorous exhibition and archival films to celebrate Hong Kong Film Archive 10th Anniversary

  • The HKFA now plans to embark on the restoration of the films “Colourful Youth” (1966), starring Connie Chan Po-chu, Josephine Siao Fong-fong and Woo Fung, and “The Arch” (1970), directed by Tong Shu-shuen. These restored archival treasures will then be introduced to local and overseas educational and cultural organisations.
  • In addition, a “star cards gift box” containing some of the finest photos of the featured film stars will be on sale at $88 at the HKFA.
  • Other thematic exhibitions and screenings to be held later this year include a retrospective of the Union Film Company, Movies on Railways, and the films of director and martial arts choreographer Lau Ka-leung.
  • A HKFA 10th Anniversary souvenir booklet is also being published.

“When Love Comes”, a drama about a teenage girl dealing with an unexpected pregnancy and her chaotic family life, claimed the best film trophy at the 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards on Saturday, November 20, 2010.

Currently six months pregnant, Michelle admits she considered surrogate birth and talks about her plans to take nude shots of her belly…Despite rumours of Michelle’s mother-in-law being unhappy over her taking nude shots of herself, she explained that the photos were not meant for public consumption and that there’s no disagreement in the family.

“Selina’s burned face was a deep red. She joked that she looks like Guan Gong (a popular Chinese warrior deity who is always depicted with a red face),” he wrote.

Variety: Hot Summer Days

A “Valentine’s Day”-style romantic multi-strander, “Hot Summer Days,” Fox’s virgin venture into Chinese-language production and distribution, bubbles along with a jaunty but unoriginal blend of the sweet, tart, cute and weepy.

According to a report from Taiwan’s Apple Daily, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Shu Qi will play husband and wife in Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s long rumored, since 2007, martial arts fantasy film (The Assassin). The cast also includes Chang Chen and Tadanobu Asano and begins low-key shooting in Nara, Japan now that Shu Qi’s If You Are the One 2 has wrapped up. [In July, HHH was granted a $625,000 production subsidy from the Taiwan government's National Development Fund and assurance that 30 percent of the budget would be provided.]

A circus clown named Sunny (Aaron Kwok) goes on a hiking trip with a few colleagues to explore the mountains of Malaysia. The group finds a cave where they accidentally inhale a type of gas which turns out to be a biological weapon leftover by the Japanese from World War II.

The new actress selected for Jay Chou’s sequel to The Secret is Man Qi. Man Qi is an actress-model previously known as ‘little Lin Chi-Ling’. The film will employ 3D to create a Hollywood-style musical love story. The Chinese title is Beyond Time and Space.
