FBA: Anticipated films lock China dates

Wong Kar-Wai’s martial arts drama The Grandmasters will open on 18 Dec.

Jackie Chan, along with other cast members, will attend the Cannes International Film Festival this May.

He attributed this to film investors’ aversion to risk and the lack of perseverance among younger filmmakers and artistes.

“This gap in the Hong Kong film industry is very obvious both in front of [the camera] and behind the scenes.”

Miriam Yeung, said, “I am about to give birth, and this will be my last movie before I do so. Of course it’s better to go to the movies than staring at the monitor at home. Watching a movie with friends and popcorn is much better. I have many single friends who immediately have dates after watching this movie, you have to believe it.”

She added smilingly, “If you go a few more times I guarantee you will be a parent!”

Fan Bingbing attended the press conference as a guest. But do not be surprised if she is also cast in Iron Man 3.

Local auds didn’t flock to “City of Life and Death” in expected numbers, partially because Lu made the Japanese general in the war movie a real character.

CF: China’s First Banned Film Released after 60 Years

After its premier in 1951, the film was soon caught up in ideological disputes, which saw it pilloried as being pro-capitalist, a severe accusation in an era characterized by its black-and-white politics. However, Mao Zedong’s criticism of the film, in which he labeled it as carrying a message detrimental to the principles of socialism, was perhaps the main reason behind the banning of the film.
