PR: HKIFF to Premiere Youku Original “Micro Movie” Titles from Major Directors

Youku Original and the HKIFF invited leading Asian directors Gu Changwei, Tsai Ming-liang, Ann Hui, and Kim Tae-yong to direct “micro movies” (”wei dianying” in Mandarin) for “Beautiful 2012,” a year-long Youku Original campaign highlighting selected original content.

“A Spring River Flows East” is one of a series of films from the 1930s and 40s to be restored for the Shanghai International Film Festival. 

The ongoing feud between Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen and Chinese martial arts actor Vincent Chiu has escalated recently, with Yen suing Chiu for making false claims about his conduct on the set of Yen’s new action film “Special Identity”.

The highly anticipated “3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy” had its world premiere in Hong Kong on Tuesday night, giving moviegoers their first peek at what the movie’s producer describes as the world’s first 3-D erotic film.

Zhang Yimou’s script for Nanjing Heroes has been drastically changed according to reports. It is rumoured that Christian Bale no longer plays a priest. In addition, Tong Dawei who suffers lower back injury has returned from sick leave in Beijing where he was recovering. Shawn Dou Xiao denied that his role as a Japanese soldier has only one line. He is currently working in the gym for training. Whether he had scenes with Bale or not he could not reveal it.

The sequel to Ang Lee’s Eat Drink, Man Woman will feature Blue Lan, Huo Siyan and Rose Kuei (Gua Ah-Lei) it was announced this week in Hong Kong. Taiwanese filmmaker Tsao Jui-yuan (Love’s Lone Flower, 2005) will direct the $3m (RMB20m) drama which, like the original, centers on an old master chef and the love stories of his three daughters.This time, the chef is a mainland Chinese chef based in Hangzhou City in East China [played by Kenneth Tsang]. Shooting will start in Hangzhou on April 6 and will shift to Taipei starting in early May. The film should open in Taiwan and the mainland in Nov. (ScreenDaily)
