PR: HK Film Archive’s “The Strange Case of Hong Kong Amoy Cinema” (HKFA)

To tie in with the programme, the HKFA will publish a research monograph entitled “The Amoy-dialect Films of Hong Kong” in late March.

Wong Jing’s upcoming film “Marrying Mr. Perfect” is set to hit cinemas nationwide on March 16. Prior to its release, a series of still photos featuring gorgeous Liu Yan have been released.

In a recent newspaper interview, Vincent Zhao claimed that script changes on “Special Identity” lead to an argument between director Clarence Fok and cinematographer Peter Pau. Also, Zhao said that the changes reduced his role to that of a supporting cast member.

Following the high-profile filming of “The Viral Factor” in Kuala Lumpur last year, it seems that more Hong Kong filmmakers are looking to Malaysia for filming locations for their movies and this year, award-winning actors Aaron Kwok and Nick Cheung are that batch of Hong Kong stars, having arrived here recently to shoot Oxide Pang’s detective thriller titled “Conspirator”.

Of course, they first looked at Mexico, but eventually realized that it was actually a better deal to manufacture in the US, saying it’s still cheaper on shipping both parts and final products and would allow the company to react faster to market changes. The company also believes they’ll save money in training and retaining workers in the US. Who knows if there’s more going on behind the scenes here, but considering how big a story it was when all TV manufacturing left the US, it’s certainly noteworthy that (at least at one plant) it’s come back from Asia.

FBA: Sleepless Fashion review

Strained light comedy set in Beijing’s fashion/media world. FBA: Mr. & Mrs. Single review

Gentle office rom-com of sexual misunderstandings does the business.

As a whole, the movie never reaches very far down, and is at pains to stay within the genre’s conventions, but as a gentle rather than aggressively modern rom-com it’s an above-average ride for 100 minutes.

The latest “Mou girl” was finally revealed to the public, in Los Angeles, at a press conference. Her name is Ni Ni. She is 23 years old and has the auspicious birthday of 8.8.1988. Contacted by reporters, Ni Ni was described by a university teacher as easy, outgoing and a good Latin dancer. She is a 2007 graduate of CUCN (Communication University of China Nanjing) in Gansu Province. Previous reports revealed that Ni Ni’s character has a sex scene with Christian Bale, probably edited down for the domestic release. Zhang’s daughter, Zhang Mo, a former student at Columbia University and NYU Film School, served as a translator for Christian Bale.

CRI: Wen Zhang to Star in 3D Film ‘On the Road’

Actor Wen Zhang will star in an urban romantic film that is said to be the first of its genre to be shot in 3-D.

A South Korean director will be in charge of this Sino-Korean co-production. A star-studded cast, including Huang Shengyi from China and Ji Jin-hee and Cha Su-yeon from South Korea, will join Wen in the film.
