Youth Film Guide announced the winners of the final round for the 2010 Golden Broom Awards.

Feng Xiaogang’s If You Are the One 2 won for both 2nd Most Disappointing Film and Most Disappointing Director. His film Aftershock was also awarded Most Disappointing Product Placement Film Award. Confucius  garnered both Most Disappointing Film and Director awards. Lee Lik-Chi’s Flirting Scholar 2 won the awards for Most Disappointing Sequel and Most Disappointing Actor (Zhou Libo). Taiwan actress Barbie Hsu won the Most Disappointing Actress award for 3 films, Future X-Cops, Reign of Assassins and Adventure of the King beating out Xie Na who received the 2nd Most Disappointing Actress. Organizers said that the prize was a wedding gift for the bride-to-be. :D

The first round was pared to a short list by film critics, media people, academics, netizens, filmmakers and others.

The jury also recognized as high-quality films: Let the Bullets Fly, Buddha Mountain, Monga, Echoes of the Rainbow, The Fourth Painting, Taipei Exchanges, Love in a Puff and Chongqing Blues. Documentaries I Wish I Knew and KJ: Music and Life were also awarded. Jia Zhangke, Pang Ho-Cheung, Wang Xiaoshuai and others attended the event to receive their prize. (Sina)

THR: China’s ‘What Women Want’ Remake to Get Day-and-Date U.S. Release

China Lion will also distribute Chen Daming’s film to cinemas in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

  • What Women Want, starring Andy Lau and Gong Li, will open at select North American theaters day-and-date with its China premiere on Feb. 3, the first day of the Lunar New Year, distributor China Lion said on Friday.
  • China Lion will open What Women Want, subtitled in English, at AMC theaters in cities where there are large concentrations of ethnic Chinese moviegoers, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Boston, Seattle and Washington, D.C., and at Cineplex theaters in Vancouver.
  • Its next North America and China day-and-date release will be the March 18 premiere of the Fox International Productions film The Butcher, The Chef and the Swordsman.

Huayi Brothers, the film’s production company, released the movie’s closing song “Zui Hao Bu Xiang Jian” (”Best Not to Meet”), saying its lyrics were taken from Tsangyang Gyatso’s poem “Shi Jie Shi” (”Ten Nots Poem”).

The work is split into two obvious parts, the styles and plots of which are in complete contrast, as if coming from two different writers. Later as I found out, they actually did.

Shortly after the film’s premiere last week, scriptwriter Gao Xuan complained on her weibo (local version of twitter) that despite the fact that she, Chen and another writer had worked on the script for the first half of the film, she was only credited for “early-stage script composition” instead of “scriptwriter.”
