You Are the Apple of My Eye

Thanks to China’s censors, several scenes that make up nine minutes of the movie were edited out. Apparently, things like masturbation and kissing are deemed unsuitable for general viewing in China. Also, the character Boner, has had his name changed to something more innocuous.

Ko was noticeably absent from a promotion event held in Shanghai earlier this month, but he flew into Beijing to meet fans on Monday. He said that he didn’t attend the event because he was upset about the deleted scenes.

Yang, 25, became one of the most popular actresses with a rise to instant fame in 2011. The Beijing native began acting at 4 years old and rose to fame for her role in the TV series “Palace” in 2011.

The two actresses are rumoured to be unhappy about how their names are placed in promotional materials

The cast list on the movie poster also came in two different formats. In the Taiwanese version, Shu Qi’s name was listed before Vicki, while in the Chinese version, the latter’s name was listed first. The movie production company was said to have used this method to pacify both actresses.

Ricky’s day of death also coincided with the death anniversary of Lam Ching-ying, one of Hong Kong’s famous actors who acted in many vampire-themed movies. He had played the role of Ricky’s master in the movie Mr Vampire.

CRI: Chow Yun-fat Plays a New Cao Cao

Chow, Alec Su and Japanese actor Hiroshi Tamaki have attended a news conference to preview the historic epic “Tong Que Tai” (”The Bronze Sparrow Terrace”).

The makers of “Painted Skin 2″ revealed that the trailer was made under the direction of Japanese fantasy master Yoshitaka Amano and other domestic fantasy designers. The 120-second clip does not disclose any specific details about the plot, but does give film fans a glimpse of the fantasy inspired images that feature throughout the movie.

“White Deer Plain” is considered to be the most difficult books to adapt into film, particularly in terms of technical constraints, its time span and the tight content. The novel is lengthy but tight. Staying true to the original work while keeping it short enough to be a film is a tough task.

Cecilia Cheung is facing a boycott threat from a Chinese production company if she does not finish filming The Lady General of the Yang Family.

Major Chinese newspapers reported that Shanghai Film Studio, the second largest film production house in China, had threatened to withdraw its investment of the film if it was not wrapped up by the end of the month.

Cheung was scheduled to shoot 47 sets but discontinued after completing only 31.

This agitated the production house, which threatened to boycott all films by the Hong Kong actress.

“The boycott is expected to affect Cheung’s reputation as an actress,” one newspaper reported.

Product placements draw laughs at preview screenings of Wind Blast in Shanghai and Xi’an. Besides prominently featuring a vehicle brand (Jeep?) in the story, the camera lingers over billboards for a medicinal product that is used in a joke later on. The Shanghai screening was cut short when the film caught fire during projection. Talk about a hot film! Some viewers up to that point complained that the story was unclear in the opening ten minutes and that having eight major players was too much. The Hollywood-like ‘Chinese western’ was both praised and criticized as imitative by the audience.

A documentary on Johnnie To, Hong Kong’s prolific creator of films across genres, but best known for his action crime thrillers that have earned him a strong cult following internationally. The documentary was shot by French filmmaker, critic and journalist Yves Montmayeur who followed To for three years, capturing his insight on filmmaking.
